ENVIRONMENTAL GLOSSARY FOR YOUTH AND HOW IT WAS BEFORE ELECTRICITY: Book Presentations
06. June 2025
Friday, 13 June 2025, 5 PM, Glazer Hall
Two new books by Maribor-based authors have been published by Aristej Publishing House in its well-known popular science series Glossaries and How It Was Before…, intended for readers young and old.
In Environmental Glossary for Youth, philosopher Tomaž Grušovnik explores questions about the human relationship with the environment, environmental ethics and animal ethics, why people in developed post-industrial societies fail to act despite having the knowledge, and how to cultivate character traits for facing environmental challenges. In How It Was Before Electricity, historian Uroš Dokl traces the journey from modest lighting with oil lamps, candles, and kerosene lamps to today’s light pollution. He describes how Ljubljana and Maribor developed their urban lighting systems, how the first light bulbs in the region lit up in the Scherbaum Mill in the centre of Maribor, and which Slovenian towns played a pioneering role in electric lighting and electricity production.
In this edition of Sessions with Books, the authors will be in conversation with Emica Antončič, editor-in-chief at Aristej Publishing House.
We look forward to your visit!
