BOOK SESSIONS WITH ARISTEJ PUBLISHING HOUSE

08.03.24

Thursday, March 14th, 17:00, Glazer Hall

This time, in our Book Sessions event series, we present three books published by Aristej Publishing House and authored by three Maribor authors: ethnologist Dr. Jerneja Ferlež is the author of How It Was When There Were No Washing Machines (published as the third book in the series How It Was When There Were No...). Theatre costume designer Belinda Radulović wrote Clothing Glossary for Young People (the 15th instalment in the series of glossaries), and librarian Gabrijela Kolbič penned Maribor in Love.

We will discuss washing practices before the invention of washing machines, as well as the processes of drying and ironing laundry in the past. Additionally, we will explore the history of clothing, dress codes, the evolution of fashion, beauty ideals, cultural differences in attire, and the romantic connections of famous Maribor locations, among other topics.

The demanding production process of these three authors' books was also supported by male collaborators: illustrators Toni Buršić and Izar Lunaček, photographer and graphic designer Matjaž Wenzel, and designer-architect Jernej Borko. All three books have been edited by Emica Antončič, who will engage in discussions with the authors and briefly introduce other recent publications of Aristej Publishing House.

The event will be conducted in Slovene.
