BOOK PRESENTATION: CMUREK CASTLE BY IGOR SAPAČ

04.04.24

Thursday, April 11 2024, 17:00, Glazer Hall

Dr Igor Sapač, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Architecture at the University of Maribor, will present his book Cmurek Castle, published in 2023 in the book collection Works of Art in a Pocket by ZRC SAZU Publishing.

In the book, the author discusses the former nobleman's residence, which later became the Hrastovec-Trate Institute for the Mentally and Nervously Ill and, since 2013, has been a vibrant cultural centre. As the author writes, the castle is once again connecting people on both banks of the Mura and contributing to mutual understanding, dialogue, and tolerance in a special place of intertwining human creativity.

The discussion with Dr Igor Sapač will be moderated in our Book Sessions by the editor of the publication, Dr Gorazd Bence, of the ZRC SAZU France Stele Institute of Art History, and will include the reviewer, Dr Tina Košak, from the ZRC SAZU France Stele Institute of Art History, and by Dr Sonja Bezjak, the director of the Museum of Madness, which operates in Cmurek Castle in Trate.

The event will be conducted in Slovene.

We look forward to your visit!

BOOK PRESENTATION: SLOVENIAN GRAZ

22.03.24

Tuesday, 26 March 2024, 17:00, Glazer Hall

Simon Ošlak-Gerasimov's book subtitled Star Moments of Slovenian Culture in the Styrian Capital: From the Naming of the City to the Establishment of the Slovenian Reading Room, will be presented by the author. The event is co-organised by the University of Maribor Library, the Maribor Austrian Reading Room, and other collaborators.

The bilingual book Slovenski Gradec/Slowenisches Graz (Slovenian Graz) narrates the history of the city through the lens of Slovenian culture and its impact on the historical evolution of the Mur metropolis. Graz shares numerous connections with Slovenia in literature, science, and commerce. As the capital of Inner Austria and a significant university hub, Graz played a pivotal role in the nurturing of Slovenian culture, with notable figures like Janez Puh and Jože Plečnik contributing significantly during their time there. The book recounts the pivotal moments of Slovenian culture in the Styrian capital, spanning from the city's christening to the establishment of the Slovenian Reading Room in 2013. Additionally, it includes a bilingual city map detailing various landmarks associated with Slovenia.
