Branko GombačA DISCUSSION WITH TONE PARTLJIČ TO COMMEMORATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF BRANKO GOMBAČ'S BIRTH

19.04.24

Tuesday, April 23 2024, 17:00, Glazer Hall

In honour of the 100th anniversary of Branko Gombač's birth, we present the Remembering event series instalment titled Branko Gombač: The Total Theatre-Maker.

The title "total theatre-maker," coined by Lojze Filipič, may seem unexpected for someone whose journey into the world of theatre didn't start on a glamorous stage but rather in the shadows, initially as a stagehand. Yet, throughout his life, Gombač became an integral part of our theatre history.

Tone Partljič, who formed a close bond with Gombač during their time in Maribor, will reminisce about this versatile theatre figure. Moderating the discussion, Mag. Franci Pivec awaits the insights and reflections from Gombač's friends and associates.

The Remembering event series is organised by the Union of Cultural Societies of Maribor, the University of Maribor Library, and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of Maribor.

The event will be conducted in Slovene.

BOOK PRESENTATION: CMUREK CASTLE BY IGOR SAPAČ

04.04.24

Thursday, April 11 2024, 17:00, Glazer Hall

Dr Igor Sapač, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Architecture at the University of Maribor, will present his book Cmurek Castle, published in 2023 in the book collection Works of Art in a Pocket by ZRC SAZU Publishing.

In the book, the author discusses the former nobleman's residence, which later became the Hrastovec-Trate Institute for the Mentally and Nervously Ill and, since 2013, has been a vibrant cultural centre. As the author writes, the castle is once again connecting people on both banks of the Mura and contributing to mutual understanding, dialogue, and tolerance in a special place of intertwining human creativity.

The discussion with Dr Igor Sapač will be moderated in our Book Sessions by the editor of the publication, Dr Gorazd Bence, of the ZRC SAZU France Stele Institute of Art History, and will include the reviewer, Dr Tina Košak, from the ZRC SAZU France Stele Institute of Art History, and by Dr Sonja Bezjak, the director of the Museum of Madness, which operates in Cmurek Castle in Trate.

The event will be conducted in Slovene.

We look forward to your visit!
