Castle Square

A selection of postcards depicting scenes of Maribor from the golden era of postcards, a time when the German language prevalied in the everyday lives of the townspeople.

Today, as digital media have taken over the role of communication, postcards remain as connection with the past and serve as a unique document of cultural heritage.

The exhibition is curated by Gabrijela Kolbič and designed by Dejan Štampar. The postcards are from the Ephemera Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts.

On display until the end of August 2024.

The library invites you to donate photos of Maribor

10.01.24

Become a co-creator of the city's visual memory!

Do you own classic photographs of Maribor from the past decades? We welcome you to share them with us for possible inclusion in our Ephemera Collection.

We're particularly interested in images capturing the essence of Maribor's streets, buildings, and daily life from the 1990s to the present.

Once received, we will carefully evaluate each submission, selecting the most representative images for incorporation into the collection. We will ensure their proper preservation, cataloging in our library catalog, credit the author and maintain your ownership information. These photographs will be accessible to the public for research, educational, and leisure purposes.

Please deliver your photographs in physical form, enclosed within a sealed envelope, to the UKM Lending desk (1st floor) by the end of February 2024, along with your contact details. Following the review process, we'll be in touch to discuss next steps. We are deeply thankful for your generosity and contribution to preserving our city's heritage!

Miha MalešMiha Maleš: game of colours and lines

14.12.23

Art Exhibition

Miha Maleš enriched Slovenian art with a contemporary approach, showcasing mastery in both graphic and painting techniques. This is reflected in his use of intense colors and fast, wavy lines. In his creative endeavors, he has tackled numerous themes, with a notable emphasis on both figurative and landscape art. Landscape art emerges early and persists throughout his life as an impression of the moment or simply as a quick diary entry of what he saw. Particularly during the challenging interwar period, the Ljubljana Tivoli Park served as his constant muse, where Maleš resided and had his studio. The exhibition, featuring motifs from Tivoli as well as from Piran and Macedonia, is a collaboration with the Kamnik Intermunicipal Museum and the Miha Maleš Gallery.

Opening: Friday, December 22nd, at 1:00 PM

On display until the end of January 2024.
