Saturday, 8 June 2024, 11:00, Glazer Hall
On the occasion of this year's Primož Trubar Day, Associate Prof. Dr. Aleš Maver will give a lecture titled On the Trail of Dangerous Relationships: Religion, (Literary) Language, and Neighbours in Selected Slavic Nations.
Every 8th of June since 2014, the University of Maribor Library, the Union of Cultural Societies of Maribor, and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of Maribor have commemorated Primož Trubar memorial day. The aim of these events is to strengthen awareness of Primož Trubar's work and significance for the Slovenian and European cultural and spiritual space. We strive to bring the latest scholarship in trubarology and its scholars closer to a broader audience, to promote knowledge of his works and the historical context in which they were written, and last but not least, to highlight Maribor's contribution to this legacy. The limitations posed by the pandemic forced us to move online in 2021, transitioning from the University of Maribor Glazer Hall to the virtual realm. This shift marked the beginning of the Rajhman Lecture Series, inaugurated by Dr. Fanika Krajnc-Vrečko. We are now concluding this series with a lecture by Dr. Aleš Maver. All four invited Rajhman Lectures are dedicated to this year's centenary of the birth of the renowned Maribor trubarologist, Dr. Jože Rajhman.

Join us for the presentation of Marko Košir's book, Stane Sever: Genius on the Theatre Stage (Stane Sever, genij na gledališkem odru), part of the Book Sessions event series at the University of Maribor Library and an additional programme of the Maribor Theatre Festival. This event is organised in cooperation with the author.
Stane Sever had an illustrious career, creating more than a hundred theatre and film roles and serving as a university lecturer. In this book, Košir delves into Sever's youth, his early days as an actor, and his acting career in Ljubljana and Maribor and provides an overview of his various roles. The author also includes memories of Sever's work in radio, television, and film. During the presentation, Košir will highlight Sever's period in Maribor and share new findings not yet included in the book.
The book is published by Založba Pivec.
The event will be conducted in Slovene.
Following the book presentation at 18:00, stay for a concert by Janez Škof and Marjan Stanić at 19:30 as part of the Evenings Under the Arcades event cycle.

Thursday, June 6 2024, 19:30, Under the Arcades of the University of Maribor Library
Join us for a captivating evening as part of the Evenings Under the Arcades event cycle, featuring a unique blend of noble poetry with chanson, cabaret, ethnic, and jazz influences.
Both members of the duo are renowned for their diverse roles. However, they are best known to a broader audience as members of the band Čompe. For nearly 30 years, despite having only one album, this unconventional sextet has delighted audiences of all ages with a unique combination of noble poetry and a raw mix of chanson, cabaret, ethno, jazz, and a touch of punk attitude. Škof and Stanić's musical style closely mirrors that of their parent band, though the duo's more minor instrumentation results in a more intimate and less sonically bustling performance. There is a more direct, almost "telepathic" exchange between Škof, who plays the accordion and sings, and Stanić, who waves and strikes left and right, above and below … The duo maintains a solid connection to Čompe through the poetry of prominent Slovenian poets such as Dane Zajc, Milan Jesih, Edvard Kocbek, and Andrej Rozman Roza. In the hands of this dynamic duo, the poets' verses are brought to life in a fresh, compelling, and inviting manner, enriched by subtle musical nuances and a well-crafted performance.
Before the concert, at 18:00, there will be a presentation of Marko Košir's monograph, Stane Sever: Genius on the Theatre Stage in the Glazer Hall of the University of Maribor Library.
Admission is free. You are cordially invited!
