Pri pouku zgodovine bi moral biti večji poudarek na ključnih dogodkih in osebnostih iz slovenske zgodovine, tako npr. na prevratnih dogodkih leta 1918/19 in na delova­nju generala Rudolfa Maistra in njegovih borcev za severna mejo. To bi pomagalo k boljšemu poznavanju lastne preteklosti in s tem lastne kulture. Tako bomo tudi bolj odprti do drugih kultur. Zavest o nacionalni identiteti predstavlja tudi osnovo širši evropski identiteti, kjer je za globlje razumevanje pripadnosti enotnemu evropskemu kulturnemu prostoru še kako potrebno zavedanje lastnega naroda.

Dragan Potočnik: General Rudolf Maister and Patriotism in History Lessons. Review for History and Ethnography, Maribor 82=47(2011), 2-3, pp. 143-155

In History lessons there should be a greater emphasis on the key moments and per­sonalities from the Slovene history; i.e. on revolutionary events in 1918/19 and on the actions of General Rudolf Maister and his soldiers who fought for the Northern bor­der. This would help with understanding one's own past and consequently one's own culture. In this way we could be more open towards other cultures. The consciousness of a single national identity is also the basis for the wider European identity, where the own national awareness is crucial to a broader understanding of belonging to the united European cultural space.
