Ameriška osamosvojitvena vojna se je začenjala z Deklaracijo o neodvisnosti leta 1774, končala pa z mednarodnim priznanjem Združenih držav Amerike leta 1783 in z novo federalno ustavo, ki je bila ratificirana leta 1790.
Leta 1803 so Združene države Amerike od Francije kupile Louisiano, območje med reko Misisipi in Skalnim gorovjem. To je bila najpomembnejša nepremičninska transakcija v zgodovini Združenih držav Amerike. S tem nakupom so Združene države Amerike podvojile obseg svojega ozemlja in spremenile namen ekspedicije kapetanov Meriwetherja Lewisa in Williama Clarka proti zahodu, ki je iz predvidene napol tajne odprave čez tuja ozemlja prerasla v drzno raziskovalno izmero novih ozemelj v lasti Združenih držav Amerike.

The American War ofIndependence started with the Dec1aration ofIndependence in 1774 and ended with the international recognition of the United States of America in 1783 and with new federal constitution, which was ratified in 1790.
In 1803 the United State s of America bought Louisiana - the region between the Mississippi river and the Rocky Mountains - from France. This was the most important real estate transaction in the history of the United States of America. With this purchase the United States of America doubled the size of their ter¬ ritory and changed the purpose of the captains' Meriwether Lewis and William Clark expedition towards West. The expedition turned from a half secret expedition over foreign lands to adaring research measuring of new lands owned by the United States of America.
