Zinka Zorko, Anja Benko: Pravljice Avgusta Pavla v prekmurskem cankovskem govoru.
Časopis za zgodovino in narodopisje, Maribor 85=50(2014), 3, str. 83–111

Zinka Zorko, Anja Benko: Fairytales by Avgust Pavel in the Prekmurje Cankova speech.
Review for History and Ethnography, Maribor 85=50(2014), 3, pp. 83–111

The present contribution about three Prekmurje fairytales in the Cankova dialect (penned by Avgust Pavel and his mother) highlights the relation between (1) the fairytales by Avgust Pavel’s mother, written in the spoken variation of the west-Prekmurje Ravensko speech, and (2) Pavel’s version of these fairytales, which are technical, stylistically enriched texts with dialectal characters denoting pronunciation. Avgust Pavel published his fairytales in 1913 and 1914 in Hungary in the publication Časopis. In a footnote, each of them was translated in Hungarian, while the meanings of individual
dialect words were likewise explained in Hungarian. His mother had sent him five fairytales, Pavel published four and this contribution linguistically analyses three of them.
