Aljoša Špelec: The Elections of County Representative Bodies in Lower Styria in 1873 and 1876. Review for History and Ethnography, Maribor 84=49(2013), 1, pp. 54–68

The county representative bodies were in among all Slovene countries of the Austrian part of the Monarchy introduced only in Styria (Lower Styria). On the administrative-political level they represented the intermediate stage between the municipalities and the provincial government in Graz. They were mostly identical with the borders of political and judicial counties. The representative bodies were self-governing bodies and all of the county municipalities were under their authority except of those that had their own statutes and were in the municipal affairs directly subordinated to the provincial committee (in Lower Styria these were Maribor, Celje and Ptuj). The elections of the county representative bodies took place every three years. They were a manifestation of prestige on the local level; nevertheless they were of no great importance and the Slovenes were, at least in the beginning, not very much fond of them.
