Dr. Ivan Geršak je bil rojen 4. novembra 1838 pri Sv. Petru pod Sv. Gorami (danes Bistrica ob Sotli), umrl je 24. februarja 1911 v Ormožu. V Gradcu je 1865. doštudiral pravo in 1870. napravil odvetniški izpit ter doktorat. Naslednje leto, 1871., je postal notar v Ormožu in tu ostal do smrti. Tem je leta 1876 ustanovil okrajno hranilnico in posojilnico, ki je večkrat preoblikovana delovala vse do konca 2. svetovne vojne. Leta 1880 je bilo na njegovo pobudo ustanovljeno »Politično katoliško društvo Sloga«, ki mu je načeloval vse do l. 1887. Med letoma 1884 (1883) in 1896 je bil načelnik ormo¬ škega okrajnega zastopa. Iz političnega življenja se je umaknil 1896., a ostal aktiven kot načelnik hranilnice in posojilnice ter kot podpredsednik (od 1899) in predsednik čitalnice (od 1906).

Ivan Geršak, Ph.D., was bom on 4th November 1838 in Sv. Peter pod Sv. Gorami (St. Peter under the Holly Mountains / today Bistrica ob Sotli), and died on 24th February 1911 in Ormož. He finished his law school in Graz in 1865 and passed the lawyer exam and got his doctorate in 1870. In the next year, in 1871, he became a notary in Ormož where he stayed until his death. In 1876 he established in Ormož a county savings bank and a Ioan society, which was often reorganised and active all the way until the end of the World War II. In 1880 the Politično katoliško društvo Sloga (Political Catholic Society Unitiy), was established on his initiative and he was also its chairman until 1887. Between 1884 (1883) and 1896 he was the head of the Ormož county parliament. He withdrew from the political life in 1896 but stayed active as the chairman of the savings bank and the Ioan society. He was al so the vice president (since 1899) and president of the Čitalnica (Reading-room movement) (since 1906).
